Mindfulness Retreat for Professionals, Norfolk Island with Dr Kate Lemerle
Escape for a mid-year break to refuel…and collect CPD points!
Following the resounding success of our first Retreat at the start of the year, the IAPP is organizing another Retreat mid-year as an opportunity for a small group of hard-working professionals to take some time out to practice what we preach – self-care.
Burnout affects up to 68% of health professionals throughout their working lives, and whilst we know what we “should” be doing we are often our own worst enemies. This 5-day Retreat at the historical and breathtakingly beautiful Norfolk Island offers a chance to take some time out for focusing on yourself – “me time”.
Participants will experience different types of Mindfulness as a tool for managing thoughts, emotions and behavioural habits that might benefit from change to rebuild resilience, with the aim being to address our risks for burnout.
Each day, we come together for a 3-hour group session where participants will:
• Learn about the neurobiology of Mindfulness and Biofeedback
• Explore current research on mindfulness and neuroplasticity
• Practice mindfulness techniques for becoming a more effective practitioner
• Learn how to integrate the principles and applications of Mindfulness into daily practice
• Challenge our negative bias and actively work on regaining more balance in our own lives
This exclusive package includes:
Return airfares from Brisbane or Sydney including all taxes and fees and airport transfer
Accommodation in single rooms at the secluded Tintoela Homestead (self-catering) on Norfolk Island
5 x 3-hour learning sessions focusing on mindfulness practices we could use to keep burnout at bay, as well as learning more about the neuroscience and therapeutic benefits of mindfulness (15 hours of CPD)
Opportunities for one-on-one peer consultation
Half day island tour
Access to hire car (share with group)
The price also includes a number of extra self-pampering activities including a 1-hour massage, 2-hour watercolour painting class, early-morning yoga, and a guided bushwalk through the National Park with an inspiring naturalist.
There are endless other activities you can choose as optional extras including browsing the renovated convict ruins, craft tour, horse-riding, golf on one of the most magnificent courses you’ve seen, water sports, and so much more. Or just spend your free time relaxing and enjoying the peace of this wonderful place.
Registrations must include a deposit of $600 payable by 17/04/2015 and the balance to be received by 22/05/2015 to confirm flights and accommodation. Payment plan on request.
Registration forms including pricing available on our website or call (07) 3999 8613. Fee paid via PayPal online is the deposit and the outstanding payment must be settled on invoice.

MINDFULNESS-BASED BURNOUT PREVENTION RETREATS
NORFOLK ISLAND
ARE YOU AT RISK FOR BURNOUT?
OUR RETREATS PROVIDE AN EXCLUSIVE OFFER TO ESCAPE THE PRESSURES OF WORK, GIVE YOURSELF A BREATHER…AND GAIN CPD POINTS IN PARADISE!
Burnout is the most widespread problem faced by professionals who help others – the incapacity to take a breather and replenish our own spirits. Research suggests that up to 65% of health practitioners will suffer symptoms throughout their working lives, and many avoid seeking help or actively putting into place strategies to address the risk factors.
To find out if you are at risk for burnout, complete the Burnout Questionnaire.
After the resounding success of our first Mindfulness Retreat in January, we are offering this opportunity twice more this year – and we invite you to come with us to Norfolk Island and give yourself a 7-day sabbatical, time to stop and find the stillness that only places such as this give us. In addition, you will have the chance to personally explore Mindfulness as one of the most powerful strategies for strengthening mental resilience, and developing your own Burnout Prevention Self-Care Plan.
Each day includes a 3-hour interactive workshop during which you will not only learn more about burnout and resilience for health professionals, but you will also have the chance to experience a variety of Mindfulness techniques that can be readily integrated into busy daily lives:
- Learn about the neurobiology of Mindfulness and Biofeedback
- Discuss current research on mindfulness and neuroplasticity
- Practice mindful communication to become a more effective practitioner
- Challenge our negative bias and actively work on regaining more balance in our own lives
- Learn how to integrate the principles and applications of Mindfulness into daily practice
The afternoons are “free time” when you can enjoy a selection of optional activities, from wandering around the World Heritage Kingston and Arthurs Vale Historic Area (KAVHA) soaking up the history of Australia’s oldest convict settlement, taking a round of golf on the spectacular 9-hole course overlooking the Pacific Ocean, relaxing with a luxurious massage, taking a painting class, tai chi or yoga, or simply pottering around the island. We will include several bushwalks in the island’s national park and along the spellbinding coastline.
In the evening, we regroup to share our experiences informally and further explore our personal insights and intentions for improving our own self-care and providing our clients with the best of ourselves.
The package includes:

7 nights self-catering accommodation (single rooms)
